Warwick Gardens is an impressive granite brick plantation home that has been painstakingly and sympathetically restored by renowned architect, Channa Daswatte. It is now a five-bedroom boutique hotel, designed to feel like a Scottish estate house rather than a Sri Lankan hotel. It was built in the 1880’s, and its original features, four-poster beds and open fires are testament to its heritage. Verdant tea plantations, colourful gardens, and organic farmland surround the property; the views from the terrace are outstanding. Food has never been Warwick Garden’s strong point, and the access road is very bumpy. Despite this, we feel Warwick Gardens is one of the best and most charming hotels in the Nuwara Eliya region.
There are three Deluxe Rooms, one White Room, and one Master Room to choose from. The Deluxe Rooms are elegantly furnished, combining western comforts such as crisp white linen and hot showers, with old world charm. The White Room is slightly more secluded and contemporary, with a much lighter and airy feel. More lavish is the Master Room, which is larger and adorned in a true colonial style, enjoying magnificent views of the hills.
