Amangalla is undoubtedly one of Sri Lanka’s most impeccable and refined historic hotels, located in the heart of Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel pays deep respect to its past having unveiled and restored its original features. At the same time it indulges in the finest linens, furniture and food. Think white walls, polished jack-wood floors, fine antiques, enormous chandeliers and a library filled with thick coffee table books. All five categories of room are of an incredibly high standard, with elegant art, antique four-poster beds, freestanding bathtubs, top quality mattresses and the finest sheets and towels. There are nine Bedrooms that are adjacent to Amangalla’s reception on the ground floor; these have garden or church views, with a luxuriant bathroom and French doors. The Chambers are a little bigger with a separate sitting area. The spacious Suites are much larger again with floorboards dating back 300 years and shuttered windows. The Garden House is a two-story house with a private terrace and balcony and the Amangalla Suite is an ideal option for families as it has two separate bedrooms. There’s a swimming pool centered within the resort’s gardens providing respite from the heat. You’ll also find a spa and a dining hall serving nothing less than excellent food. This is an Aman property so it doesn’t come cheap, but what you get is truly out of the ordinary.
