Day 1
Overnight flight to Sri Lanka.
Day 2
This morning / afternoon you will arrive into Colombo, where you will be met by your private chauffeur guide and vehicle. Negombo is a quick 20 minute transfer from the airport and is ideal for a first night stay. A small fishing town, with Dutch canals, local eateries and traditional fish markets, it's great to explore.
Day 3
From Negombo you will head north to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Journey time is in the region of 4 hours. This afternoon you will have a tour of this sacred city, said to be Sri Lanka's first Buddhist city.
Day 4
Today you will head approximately 4 hours north to Jaffna today, an area that has recently opened up to tourism on the island. This afternoon you will learn about Jaffna's turbulent history in our Jaffna City Tour.
Day 5
Today you will have a guided tour of the fascinating islands that sprawl off the coast to the west of Jaffna.
Day 6
From Jaffna you will drive approximately 4 hours down to the east coast to Trincomalee. This area is beautiful and more untouched than the west and south coast beaches.
Day 7
Day at leisure. Take a short tour of Trinco city highlights of which include Fort Frederick and Koneswaram Temple, book a snorkelling trip to Pigeon Island or simply relax by the pool or on the beach with a good book!
Day 8
This morning transfer approximately 2 hours inland to the Cultural Triangle. This afternoon head to the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which is undoubtedly Sri Lanka's largest and best preserved cave temple.
Day 9
Today you will climb the magnificent Sigiriya Rock; this spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site offers staggering views and ruins of an ancient palace at the top. Afterwards, you have a tour of the magnificent ancient city of Polonnaruwa, another UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 10
Head south to the historical hill town of Kandy. This journey takes approximately 3 hours without breaks but en route you will stop at a local spice farm. Smells of cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, turmeric and curry will overwhelm the senses and you will also enjoy a spot of lunch before continuing onto Kandy.
Day 11
Enjoy a Kandy city tour including a visit to the world famous Royal Botanical Gardens. This evening visit the famous Temple of the Tooth during a traditional puja ceremony.
Day 12
This morning you'll take a scenic train journey through the hills, up into the high Tea Country, where you'll be surrounded by beautiful greenery and tea plantations. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Day 13
Today we suggest a mixture of sightseeing and walks, depending on your location. There are some incredible hikes like Horton Plains trek to World's End, Adam's Peak in Hatton, and Ella Rock. Your chauffeur guide will take you for a short tour around Nuwara Eliya or Ella so you can get your bearings, and there'll be a quick visit to a traditional tea factory.
Day 14
Transfer to your next accommodation close to Yala National Park. Journey time is in the region of 3-4 hours. Remainder of the day is at leisure to settle into your new surroundings.
Day 15
Today you will enjoy a morning jeep safari and an afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park. Hopefully you will get to see wild elephant, crocodile, sloth bear and even leopards.
Day 16
Transfer west to the charming town of Galle stopping along the way at a local turtle hatchery. Journey time from Yala to Galle without stops takes approximately 3.5-4 hours. Hopefully you will see stilt fisherman en route.
Day 17
Today enjoy a walking tour of Galle and its 17th century fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore independently.
Day 18
Transfer north to your final accommodation of the holiday, a beach property on the west coast of Sri Lanka. Remainder of the day at leisure to settle into your relaxing new surroundings.
Day 19
Full day at leisure to relax by the pool or beach. If you want to venture out you could visit the Tsunami Community Museum and memorials, check out Geoffrey Bawa's Lunuganga Gardens, or the Madu Ganga River safari is a must-do for nature lovers!
Day 20
Final day of your trip to relax or sightsee as you wish.
Day 21
Transfer back up to Colombo Airport for your flight home. This journey should take approximately 2-2.5 hours.
