Day 1
Overnight flight to Sri Lanka.
Day 2
Upon arrival, transfer 3.5 hours inland through beautiful scenery to Jim's Farm Villas in Pallepola, a boutique hotel set in a 50 acre organic farm with mountain views.
Day 3
Today your sightseeing begins! Head north to the Polonnaruwa ancient city ruins to explore the site on bicycles, then spend the afternoon on jeep safari in Minneriya National Park spotting herds of wild elephant.
Day 4
An early start today with a visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka's most iconic UNESCO sites. The hike to the top can be fairly tiring but the views are truly stunning and there are ruins of an ancient palace at the peak. Later on you will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple to see the Buddhist statues, mural paintings and stupa.
Day 5
Enjoy a day at leisure - you can do activities such as bird watching, cycling (helmets and maps can be provided), swimming in the pool, golf, table tennis, badminton, cooking demonstration, shopping in Pallepola town, horseriding, spice garden visit, or a relaxing Ayurvedic spa treatment.
Day 6
From Pallepola you will head up to The Mudhouse, a 3hr drive. This is a fun and friendly secluded retreat, and the ideal place to enjoy cycling, kayaking, cooking lessons, village walks and nature trails.
Day 7
When staying at The Mudhouse you can be as active or as lazy as you want. Choose to simply relax in a hammock or watch the birds and buffaloes in the nearby fields... or do some cycling, kayaking, enjoy lakeside picnics, or take part in an authentic cookery lesson.
Day 8
Your beach stop is just over an hour's drive away so you can set off after a leisurely breakfast. Enjoy time at leisure in Kalpitiya, the ideal getaway thanks to its biodiversity and maritime historical connections.
Day 9
We highly recommend a Dolphin and Whale Watching boat trip. This area is often home to a wonderful variety of dolphin including Fraser’s, striped, spinner and bottlenose, and sperm whales are common here. If you're keen on wildlife you could visit Wilpattu National Park for a jeep safari.
Day 10
Adrenaline junkies can opt for water sports such as water skiing, wind surfing, and of course kite surfing - the activity that Kalpitiya has recently become famous for!
Day 11
If you prefer a more laid back day you can hire a bicycle to explore the town, try your hand at fishing, kayaking or snorkelling, or simply relax n the beach.
Day 12
Today you'll have a 3 hour drive back from Kalpitiya to the airport in time for your flight home.

Designed with families in mind, our two ‘Sri Lanka Family Adventure’ itineraries take in Sri Lanka’s UNESCO world heritage highlights, some safari and marine wildlife spotting, off the beaten track authentic adventure, as well as some all-important beach time to relax. We know that when travelling with children or teenagers it’s important to not get carried away with multiple stops and long car journeys which is why we have designed these Family Adventure tours which only include 3 locations and transfers of max. 3.5 hours.

The Mudhouse is a truly unique experience featuring clusters of traditional mud huts spread across 60 acres of tropical woodland in rural Sri Lanka. It is perfect for families as it offers plenty of activities such as kayaking, cycling, and nature trails. For those wanting some relaxation time you can chill in their hammocks, do a cookery demonstration, or go for a picnic down by the lake.

Staying at Jim’s Farm Villas in the Cultural Triangle will allow you to visit the nearby cultural sites such as the Dambulla Cave Temples, Polonnaruwa Ancient City ruins (which can also be explored via bicycle) and climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Food in Sri Lanka is truly varied and delicious so we recommend visiting a local village for a traditional Sri Lankan curry and rice, or work with the Jim’s Farm Villa chefs to learn about cooking techniques and create your own feast. Minneriya National Park is also not too far away and is known for its high numbers of wild elephant, which is always a welcome spot on safari!

There are more wildlife encounters during your beach stay with whale and dolphin watching from Kalpitiya or Trincomalee, depending on what time of year your travel (see below). The rest of your beach stay will be at leisure so you can relax with the family and explore the area. In Kalpitiya you can learn kite surfing, kayak on the lagoon or visit the nearby town, whereas Trincomalee has a huge natural harbour and plenty of history so you can do some sightseeing or go snorkelling.

4 nights Jim’s Farm Villas – 2 nights The Mudhouse – 4 nights Kalpitiya Beach

 Summer months (March to September)
